As much as I try to ignore electoral politics and the U.S. president and stuff, I can't help but give the Democratic primary race some thought--about race and gender.
Let me be clear, at this point I don't care much for either Clinton or Obama, though I did like seeing sour faces from each of them during the State of the Union last night. Of all the Democratic contenders, the only one I could see voting for was Kucinich, but he dropped out. I'm also interested in Cynthia McKinney's campaign for the Green Party nomination.
I think the old boys have it in from Ms. Clinton because she's a woman, though they themselves don't realize that's why they hate her ambition, for example. I believe Obama's race is a huge issue, as well, but I think the fact that he is more "clean" and "articulate" than any of his opponents makes him a lot more palatable to the people who run things and who have always run things.
